At the age of 10, she had appeared and played part in many Stagecoach shows and school productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 film adaptation to J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book was released in 1999. Emma was found by agents via the recommendation of her Oxford teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that after eight consecutive auditions Emma as well as Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. The film's release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen appearance. The film broke records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. Critics gave high praise to the film, and especially those who were young. The Daily Telegraph, a well-read British paper, praised her for her outstanding performance. Emma was later awarded five prizes in recognition of her work in the movie.
